Barbara Rodriguez and Anton Petkov.]<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abstract<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A recent paper [Pretorius &amp; Rodriguez, 2011] on the environmental chemistry of Precambrian Earth has given essential insights into the conditions that existed at the time of Earth\u2019s abiogenesis.\u00a0 Specifically, the presence of silane (SiH<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) for a brief period throughout the biosphere.\u00a0 The wholly anomalous and unexplained presence of silane is the largest independent variable thus far proposed as a correlative with the emergence of organic compounds on Earth.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hypothesis<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If silane (SiH<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) is atmospherically introduced to a recreation of Precambrian primordial soup, it will be possible to create &#8211; and cultivate &#8211; a completely independent and unique emergence of life.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking dictation from Rodriguez was an exercise in consummate professionalism.\u00a0 She spoke clearly, steadily, and completely from memory.\u00a0 She never hesitated, stumbled, or rephrased any portion of her dictation &#8211; not even when reciting the minutiae of each piece of lab equipment.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was taken aback by the phrase, \u2018and cultivate.\u2019\u00a0 She explained to me that it would naturally follow to foster any emergent life for observation and\/or further experimentation.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">02\/08\/2012<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Terrestrial gaseous, solid, and liquid components added to the Preabiopuladaruim Mark 1 (pbP1).<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Machine-simulated planetary conditions are active and performing correctly.<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As per the procedure outlined in [Pretorius &amp; Rodriguez, 2011, 12-16], a period of eight weeks will be spent in \u2018unencumbered gestation\u2019 before SiH<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is introduced.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: with all of the ingredients of Precambrian Earth.\u00a0 It is a sight to behold.\u00a0 The color palette alone evokes science fiction &#8211; yellows, oranges, dark blues, and violets are interwoven with the drab browns and greys.\u00a0 Due to the simulated hydrologic and meteorologic cycles, the animated state of the Womb is mesmerizing.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I asked Rodriguez to send me daily photos of the Womb.\u00a0 She refuses to send photos electronically, but will include photos in her daily notes that I will see when I resume my office hours in April.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">02\/17\/2012<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yesterday I messaged Rodriguez that I would be stopping by to collect things from my office.\u00a0 In truth, I was overcome by curiosity; I had to see the Womb again.\u00a0 She did not respond.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This afternoon I decided to stop by at a time I assumed she would be there.\u00a0 I brought us some Chinese food.\u00a0 When I arrived the parking lot was completely empty, so I assumed that I had missed her.\u00a0 Inside, however, there she was.\u00a0 She slouched on her stool, clipboard slumped in her hand; her pen had fallen to the floor beneath it.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So as not to startle her, I made extra noise with my footfalls as I approached her.\u00a0 It worked, and she regained her posture and acknowledged me.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She praised my work up to this point, citing that no contaminants or anomalies were present in the Womb.\u00a0 As she briefed me on her daily readings (from memory!), she concluded each data set saying, \u2018Precisely as Dr. Pretorius said it would be.\u2019<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I remembered the Chinese food and offered it to her.\u00a0 The urgency with which she began eating justified my visit.\u00a0 I forgot to ask about the empty parking carbon-based life as it first appeared on Earth.\u00a0 She responded by reciting Heraclitus\u2019, \u201cNo man ever steps in the same river twice, for it\u2019s not the same river and he\u2019s not the same man.\u201d\u00a0 She added, \u201cThis isn\u2019t abiogenesis; it\u2019s a regenesis &#8211; a neogenesis.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I suppose that she is correct: This is not Precambrian Earth.\u00a0 We are using modern equivalents of all primordial elements.\u00a0 Besides, Precambrian abiogenesis was certainly not managed by two homo
